Who is The Realist Me?

The Realist Me is me, Louise Whewell. I am passionate about helping you on your personal journey to better health. I have been on a path of discovery and change myself and that is why I want to work with you - because I know if I can do it, anyone can.

I used to work in the corporate world and one day I got called into my boss’s office. I was late to work…again. I didn’t have to be at work until 10 am and the office was a 10-minute walk from home yet I was constantly late. I was in my early 30s and genuinely thought that feeling tired, run down, bloated and anxious with no excitement, motivation or drive was normal. This was the wake-up call I needed.

It was a Friday and I stopped off at the library (my happy place!) on my way home from the shameful day at work. The first book I saw was Jason Vales’ 7lb in 7 days on the ‘new in’ stand. I thought nothing of it but picked it up and checked it out knowing nothing about it. I devoured that book and everything on his website and by the end of the weekend, my first juicer was on order. Waiting for that delivery was the longest ever – I couldn’t wait to get started. The plan is 5 juices a day, every day for 7 days. I am not going to lie – those first couple of days were rough, but WOW, what a difference a week can make. I felt incredible by day 5. I was up early, running about the house getting chores done BEFORE work, and for the first time in a very long time, I felt alive, awake and well. There was and still is, no formal diagnosis for how I felt before the week of juice. I just felt rubbish and knew I couldn’t go on. With the knowledge I have now, I can clearly see I was stressed. Both my body from the poor food I was fueling it with and the lack of exercise, my mind from not enough sleep and huge anxiety about work deadlines and fitting in to a new role and team.

This was all over 9 years ago and I have come on a long way since then, learning a lot about myself and how to manage my stress and anxiety. Not only that but I have helped my family and friends along the way. My husband James has been suffering from psoriatic rheumatoid arthritis for almost 30 years and we have made huge diet and lifestyle changes to help manage and reduce his symptoms – some more successful than others! This, as well as my own personal journey, is what led me to the Juice Academy to qualify as a Juice Therapist and from there on to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to study as a Health Coach. Education for me never stops in this vast and ever-changing field and I have since completed courses in both Gut Health and Hormone Health. In 2020 I studied for the National Board Exam to become a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).

Now for the actual 'About Me' bit. I am originally from the UK  but am now lucky enough to live at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, USA. I love to snowboard, cross-country ski, hike, swim, kayak, paddle board, sunbathe, read, watch TV, chill with friends, travel and I have a huge passion for cheesy music, rocks and crystals, animals, trees, water, books and all things health and wellness. I always seem to be helping my husband with a DIY project (big and small) or car renovation, but the jury is out about whether I actually enjoy it!

The most exciting part of my journey is happening right now – helping you reach your goals and raising the bar on your ‘normal.’

About The Realist Me: Welcome

What is Health Coaching?

Let’s start with what health coaching is not – it is not about one diet, one way of living or one-size-fits-all approach. Health coaching is a partnership between you and the coach, that guides you towards the changes you want to make. Health Coaches are experts on human behavior, motivation and health. They are ‘change agents’ who help you set and achieve health goals and build new habits. They are your cheerleader and guide on the side (whilst you do the hard work!).

What is NBHWC/NBC-HWC?

So you have seen some letters floating around after some coach’s names but not sure what it all means?  “NBC-HWC stands for National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach. The National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching allows proficient coaches to highlight that they have received adequate coach training and assessment of their coaching skills and knowledge, and passed the National Board Certification Exam. In order to maintain this qualification, further education and coaching needs to be undertaken every three years.” NBHWC.org

What does a session look like?

The first few sessions dive deep into your history and we also set your goals. After that the format is pretty much the same for each session. At the beginning of each session, we review the goals set from the previous week, then we get down to business. This is where we dive deep into an issue and come up with some possible solutions. We then review the solutions you want to try and off you go. Sounds easy, right? This is why the right coach is important and why you need to be ready for coaching and ready to do the work. Put simply the coach does the listening and you do the talking :)
